All the Platinum Jubilee street party road closures in the Cambridge area

Dozens of street parties and events are lined up for the big Queen’s Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend.

Whether you get into the spirit of the occasion, or just want to enjoy the extended bank holiday, there are scores of things to do in the Cambridge area between Thursday, June 2 and Sunday, June 5 to mark Her Majesty’s 70 years on the throne ..

Residents and organisations have planned a weekend of food, drink, music, fireworks and fun activities both day and night.

Cambridge, along with a number of surrounding towns and villages, will be among more than 1,500 places lighting 1,500 beacons throughout the UK, Channel Islands on Thursday, June 2. The Cambridge beacon, on Castle Mound, will be lit by the Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, Julie Spence.

Ely is preparing for a long weekend of celebration, which culminates with the combination of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations and the much-loved Ely Eel Day in Ely’s Jubil-Eel Day and Street Party on Sunday, June 5.

At IWM Duxford, visitors can watch a new 10-minute digitised film showing the Queen’s less public moments with the armed forces.

Meanwhile, many places will be taking part in the Big Jubilee Lunch by hosting picnics and parties across the area.
