Here are highlights of what’s happening around (or related to) our town this weekend through next. (Note: Thanks to the Juneteenth state holiday, next weekend is a long one.)

Saturday, June 11, 2022

  • Trottier Big Band on the radio (8:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ 90.5 WICN: The Saturday Swing Session hosted by Howard Caplan will feature the middle school’s Jazz Band.
  • Learning to Listen with LOVE (9:00 – 11:00 am) @ South Union Building, 21 Highland St: Workshop hosted by Southborough Youth & Family Services on the art of communication in relationships. They will address some of the challenges and review critical elements of successful communication. Registration required. For details see related post.
  • Summer Book Sale (10:00 am – 3:00 pm) @ Southborough Library: The Friends of the Southborough Library’s annual June sale selling books of all sorts, plus DVDs and CDs. One free book for each child. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Autism Center’s Open House (11:00 am – 1:00 pm) @ Key Autism Service, 333 Turnpike Rd: Families are invited to enjoy free ice cream, face painting, and balloon twisting. It’s a chance to see the new autism therapy facility in Southborough and ask. questions. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Pilgrim Church BBQ (5:00 – 7:30 pm) @ Pilgrim Church parking lot, 15 Common Street: Pre-purchase tickets to enjoy dinner, lawn games, and music. For details, see dedicated post.

  • Art on the Trails Installation Day (10:00 am – 5:00 pm) @Beals Preserve: 15 Artists will be installing their work as part of the 6th Annual exhibition of Art on the Trails. For details, see dedicated post.

  • Walking Group for Seniors (8:30 am) @ Trottier Middle School’s outdoor track: Free walking group organized by the Southborough Senior Center, see newsletter. Walkers generally go for an hour, but continue for as long as you wish. The location is a loop, so feel free to join late.
  • Stretch Break Class for seniors (10:15 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: For details on weekly class, see newsletter.
  • Preschool Story Time (10:30 – 11:15 am) @ Southborough Library Children’s Room: Join Miss Kim for stories and craft based on a weekly theme. No registration required.
  • Youth Writing Club (3:30 -4: 30 pm) @ zoom: The Southborough Library is hosting this virtual creative writing club for ages 10-18. The zoom sessions are a fun and supportive space to get creative and build skills with peers. For details, see dedicated post.

  • Tuesday Tech Time (4:00 – 5:00 pm) @ Southborough Library Teen Room: Need help with technology? Library staff and teen volunteers will make every effort to assist you. Bring questions about ebooks and electronic resources. This is a drop in event; no registrations necessary. Sessions are limited to no more than 1 hour.
  • Poetry Workshop (6:30 – 8:30 pm) @ Southborough Library: Bi-monthly meeting open to all. Bring your original poetry to share for constructive feedback. For details, see Library website.
  • Family Support webinar for Teens’ Well-Being (7:00 pm) @ zoom: NSBORO’s Family Support Webinar Series is promoted as supporting teenagers’ well-being. This session is focused on “Building healthy habits to improve physical and emotional health“. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Trottier “Jazz Night” (7:00 pm) @ Trottier Middle School: An evening of Jazz featuring the Trottier Big Band and alumnus, saxophonist Connor Jenks. (Donations will be accepted to supplement transportation costs and purchase new equipment.)

  • Finn Walk to School Day (8:30 am) @ 21 Highland St: Walk with other Finn students and parents as a group (or walk with an adult from home). For details, families should check the Thursday packet.

  • Young Scientists STEM Beginnings ((10:30 – 11:30 am) @ Southborough Library Children’s Room: A free in-person series for children, ages 3-6 to learn STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) concepts through hands-on activities, story time and simple experiments. The program through the Southborough Library is sponsored by the YMCA Family & Community Partnership.
  • Food Truck Festival (3:30 – 7: 0 pm) @ St. Mark’s meadow (corner of Rte 85 and Rte 30): A community event series organized by the Southborough Rotary Club. This is the final session this spring. It will features trucks from: Travlin’Bones, Birds Nest, DogFather, Bubbes Blintzes, and Trombetta’s Ice Cream. For details, see dedicated posts.

  • Baby / Toddler Storytime (11:00 – 11:45 am) @ Southborough Library Children’s Room: This story time is for children age 0-2 years and their parents or caregivers. Each session will include puppets, stories, and music. No registration required.

  • How to Be an Ally (6:30 pm) @ 21 Highland Street: “How to Be a Sensitive and Informed LGBTQ + Ally training” is offered through Southborough Youth and Family Services in recognition of “Pride Month”. The program is led by GSA Link’s. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Genealogy Club (7:00 – 8:30 pm) @ Southborough Library, main floor: This is an informal group meeting where you can learn and share tips about resources for researching family history. Group meetings are free and open to the public. Bring your laptop , log into Ancestry.com at the library, and join in.

  • Dull Men’s Club (10:00 am) @ zoom: Casual social club for senior men. New members are always welcome to drop in. For details, see dedicated post.
  • 5th Grade Farewell (3:00 – 5:00 pm) @ Neary School: The 5th graders will celebrate their graduation from Neary Elementary with a DJ, bouncy houses, lawn games, a dunk tank, Alltown Fresh pizza oven truck, and Uhlman’s ice cream. This will all be provided by Neary SOS.
  • Trottier 8th Grade Banquet (7:00 – 10:00 pm) @ Trottier Middle School: The celebration for students about to graduate Southborough’s K-8 schools. Refreshments, DJs, dancing, photos and fun. (Pre-registration and prepayment was required.)

  • Read to a Dog (11:00 – 11:45 am) @ Southborough Library Children’s room: Children preferably ages 5 and up with some reading ability will read to Bear, a certified therapy dog. Please register in the Children’s Room for a time slo or email kivers @ southboroughma.com.
  • Summer Seed Exchange (11:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Southborough Library Lawn: Ready to plant your seeds now that the weather is nicer outside? Stop by the Southborough Library outside to pick up a Gardening Kit and a tomato plant seedling (while supplies last) ). Each kit contains seed packets in one of three themes: (1) Grow Your Own Salad, (2) Gorge on Gourds or (3) Grow Your Own Herb Garden. Supplies will be limited, so be sure to stop by this special Saturday event!
