Calimesa to hold public study session | News

The city of Calimesa will hold its public study session for the fiscal year 2022-2023 on Monday, May 23, it was decided at the recent council meeting. While the time of the study session, where council members will discuss expenses and revenue and potential projects for the coming fiscal year, was not determined, it will begin between 3:30 to 4 pm and be available both online and in-person at the Calimesa Senior Center, 908 Park Ave. in Calimesa. Deputy City Manager / City Clerk Darlene Gerdes went over Calimesa’s budget process. “By the time we get to the budget study session, the ad hoc will have seen it with staff,” she said. “We bring it back because we always like to take it to the first meeting in June for approval or adoption just in case something goes on. Then, we can bring it back the second meeting in June if we need to so that it is effective by July 1. ”Gerdes provided a couple of other dates and days of the week for the study session, but council opted to stick with Monday, “If we can do it Monday because we are already used to messing up Mondays,” Mayor Bill Davis said, jokingly. “I am good with that,” Councilwoman Linda Molina said. Councilwomen Wynona Duvall and Wendy Hewitt also voted in favor of the Monday date, with Mayor Pro Tem Jeff Cervantez absent from the March 21 meeting. Change in schedule besides the date for the budget study session, council also agreed to cancel a couple of meetings during the summer. “Typically, in the summer time, you as council have canceled a couple of our council meetings due to summer schedules and vacations and those kinds of things. We are just coming back to you. “Typically, we have done the first meeting in July and the second meeting in August. We have done that the last two or three summers,” she said, referring to the Tuesday, July 5, and Monday, Aug. 15, meetings. “I am comfortable. It is almost like a repeat of what happened last year, ”said Duvall, with the other members also agreeing. All four councilmembers also agreed to close Calimesa City Hall the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day, Dec. 26-29 and cancel its Monday, Jan. 2, meeting. The Calimesa City Council meets regularly on the first and third Mondays of the month at the Calimesa Senor Center. For more information, visit
