Martin Lewis urges everyone who has booked a summer holiday to check whether they can claim back as much as £ 200 on their hotel

Thousands of Londoners will be gearing up for their summer holidays soon as travel restrictions have eased for most overseas destinations. Going abroad isn’t always the cheapest of activities but luckily Martin Lewis is back with another great way to ensure you’re getting the best deal.

Writing in the latest edition of the MoneySavingExpert.com newsletter he advised : “Around 60 per cent of the 60,000+ who replied to my Twitter poll last week said they plan to leave UK shores and holiday abroad this year (or already have).” The Money Saving Expert shared some great advice to save money, including ways to claim back on your accommodation.

If you’ve checked recently and realized that the price of your hotel or Airbnb has dropped since you’ve last booked it you’ll be feeling like a bit of a fool. But luckily, the rebook trick may save you £ 100s. the terms of your bookings allow cancellations then you can simply cancel your booking and rebook at the lower price.

He advises to check latest prices on comparison sites Skyscanner, Kayak and TripAdvisor right up until you leave to go. One reader tweeted that the tip had worked for her: “I saved £ 200 when the price dropped two days before travel.”

Even if cancelling your booking isn’t free, it’s worth measuring up the cancellation charge against how much the price has dropped. If the charge is small you could still be making a saving.

Martin adds that it’s important to check the terms and conditions of your booking before you cancel. If you’re asked to pay upfront then it’s not likely to be free cancellation and if you can’t see a free cancellation room in the options for the hotel you want, call it and check.
