The last day of the 2021-22 school year in Craven County is June 9. If you’re looking for activities for your child to participate in during their summer vacation, now is the time to start looking as several programs have limited capacity and seats are filling up.
Summer camp is being offered at several locations throughout the city. Some are free of charge, while there is a small fee for others.
The New Bern Parks and Recreation Department is offering several different camps this summer. Due to COVID-19, each camp has a limited number of participants to help prevent the spread of the virus. Campers will be assigned to small groups that will stay together for The duration of the camp. Physical distancing and proper hygiene practices will be followed at all times and campers will receive a general health screening each morning when they get to camp. Parents are asked not to send a child if they are experiencing any symptoms or have been exposed to the virus.
The Bern Bear Bunch Day Camp program at West New Bern Recreation Center is for ages 5-12. Activities include games, physical activities, arts and crafts and more with five two-week sessions. Session 1 is June 20-July 1. Session 2 is July 5-July 15. Session 3 is July 18-July 29. Session 4 is Aug. 1- Aug. 12 and Session 5 is Aug. 15-Aug. 26. Cost is $ 75 per session for residents and $ 95 per session for non-residents. Pre-registration is required. Camp activity times are 9 am-5 pm
ColorSplash Art Camp is a for middle schoolers who love art and is 9 am-5 pm Monday through Friday at the West New Bern Recreation Center, 1225 Pine Tree Drive. Campers will complete individual pieces as well as group installations. All materials is supplied. Session 1 is June 20-July1 and Session 2 is July 5-July 15.
For kids interested in cooking, a Cooking Camp where they will learn culinary skills, food safety tips, shopping on a budget and more is offering two, two-week sessions for children in grades sixth through eighth. Sessions are July 18-July 29 and Aug. 1- Aug. 12. Cost is $ 105 per session for residents and $ 125 for non-residents.
Another camp, YES Camp, includes activities such as field trips, swimming, arts and crafts, bowling, skating and more. This program will take place at the Omega Center from 8 am Monday through Thursday starting June 20- Aug. 25.

Jumpin Jive Battlefield
Jumpin Jive Battlefield holds its Summer Camp program beginning June 10- Aug. 26 and runs from 7 am-6 pm Monday through Friday. Costs is $ 125 per week or $ 30 per day. Each week the children have a different themed array of activities. Participants Will need to bring their own lunch and snacks and receive one free refillable water bottle. Examples of some of the themed weeks include Etiquette and Manners, Ninja Week, STEM, Adventure Land, and Summer Olympics / Amazing Race. For more information, visit jumpinjive battlefield .com.
Twin Rivers YMCA
Twin Rivers YMCA Summer Day Camp is open to members and non-members of the Y. This program is for kids in grades kindergarten through eighth for the 2022-23 school year and runs June 13-Aug. 19. Drop-off is from 7 30: 30 am-9 am and pick-up is 4 pm-6 pm Campers will receive one free camp shirt. Any additional camp shirts can be purchased at the discounted rate of $ 7 per shirt while supplies last.
Registration is available online only at trymca.org. A non-refundable $ 10 deposit is due at registration for each child / per week of camp to hold each spot. The cost is $ 140 for members and $ 170 per week for non-members.
